ServeWise On and Off License
Servewise provides training for the licensed trade both on and off. It aims to set professional standards for all those involved in the sale of alcohol including licensees (plus course) staff of pubs, clubs, hotels, restaurants and off licenses.
Problems of under-age drinking, drink driving, binge drinking and alcohol- related crime and disorder, mean we need to think carefully about how we serve alcohol and to whom. Trained licensees and staff are less likely to break the law through ignorance and will be more confident in enforcing the law.
ServeWise On License
Standard - is suitable for new or inexperienced staff working in pubs, clubs, hotels and restaurants.
The course lasts approx. 4 hours and can be delivered flexibly to suit the needs of the licensed trade. All candidates receive a ServeWise Handbook and certificate on completing the course.
The Plus course is suitable for licensees, managers and experienced staff working in off licenses, licensed grocers and supermarkets.
This course lasts approx. 6 hours. All candidates receive a comprehensive Manager’s Pack. Those who meet the required standard in the short multiple choice test, which is moderated by the Scottish Qualifications Authority, will receive a certificate bearing both the ServeWise and SQA logos.
The course covers the subjects of licensing law, alcohol and people skills e.g.
- Common offences
- Permitted hours, types of licenses
- Children’s certificates
- Associated laws (Weights & Measures etc)
- Units of alcohol
- Drinking & Driving
- Good service practices, setting standards and teamwork
- Problem prevention, understanding aggression
- Calming techniques and body language
